Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I suspect that my child might have autism?

Studies show that the early, intensive ABA therapy results in the best outcomes for children with autism. If you suspect that your child might have autism, it is best to begin the diagnostic process right away so your child can access ABA services.

What is the difference between an educational diagnosis and a medical diagnosis of autism?

An educational diagnosis allows your child to access certain services through their school district. Contact your school district for more information about how to access these services.

A medical diagnosis allows your child to access services through a medical provider like Pavo Behavioral Therapy. Private insurance and Medicaid only cover ABA services if a child has a medical diagnosis of autism.

How is ABA funded?

Pavo Behavioral Therapy LLC aims to help as many families as possible, and we seek out various funding opportunities, including private insurance, Medicaid, and self-funding.

Private Insurance: Contact your insurance provider to find out whether ABA is covered. Use this guide to help you navigate the conversation.

Medicaid: Contact your county’s Community Mental Health Center and ask for an autism evaluation.

Self-Funded: Contact kellykohler@pavocare.com for more information about private-pay options.

Who will be on my child’s therapy team?

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA): The BCBA/BCaBA serves as the primary contact for your family and the professionals working with your child. The BCBA/BCaBA assesses your child’s behavior to develop an individualized treatment plan. They will help ensure that the ABA Therapists are trained to implement your child’s programming as prescribed. They will frequently review your child’s charts/data to monitor progress and make changes as needed.

ABA Therapists: ABA Therapists are the front-line staff who will be working with your child on a regular basis to implement treatment. Your child will be assigned one or more ABA Therapists, who will work with your child several times a week. They are trained and supervised by your child’s BCBA/BCaBA.

Everyone works together to make sure that your child is receiving the best possible services based on their individual goals.

Do you provide services other than ABA?

Our staff are trained in Applied Behavior Analysis, therefore, we only offer ABA services at Pavo Behavioral Therapy.
